Ventriloquist Jay Johnson closes on Broadway

The one-man ventriloquism show "Jay Johnson: The Two and Only" abruptly closed on Broadway after its Sunday matinee performance. The well-reviewed show has played to small audiences despite recent gimmicks of selling $2 tickets and giving away free children's tickets.

Johnson, whose main fame comes from performing with his puppet Bob on the 1970s TV comedy "Soap," blogged all the the behind-the-scenes Sturm und Drang right up to the end.

For now, I am grateful, I need to grieve, I need to be upset and I need to get past my desire to strangle the general manager.
The show had been playing at the Helen Hayes Theatre since September 19.
