London NYC opens amid construction, with $699 special

Sure the room rates have gone up and the PR people have sent out a press release declaring "The London NYC Opens Today," but that doesn't mean construction's done.
The hotel's posh transformation from the RIHGA Royal Hotel isn't yet ready for anyone not outfitted with sturdy shoes. At the hotel this morning, the lobby was completely closed except for a cord-strewn curtained walkway that led to the elevators -- mind the ladders partially blocking the lift -- needed to reach the second-floor check in and concierge desk.
The current "fall special" on the London NYC website has rooms from $699 a night. A call to the reservation line this afternoon said the best rate available for tonight is $799 for a "flat," the smallest room-type available at the hotel.
Also still under construction are the hotel's much anticipated dining destinations: Gordon Ramsay at the London and his more casual The London Bar. November 16 is the target opening date for the pair.
The London NYC is located at 151 W. 54th St., between Sixth and Seventh avenues, map.
Update: As of Sunday evening, all looked good from street level.
More pictures after the jump.
