Free kids tickets for Broadway's 'Two and Only'
The well-reviewed but struggling Broadway show "Jay Johnson:The Two and Only" has a new offer that should appeal to families. For each adult ticket you buy, you get one free ticket for a child - if you know the offer code (TWOFORU).
Child-haters, or the merely childless, can use the offer code TWEML56 for 30 percent discounts on orchestra and front mezzanine seats for adults. Both offers are good through November 30.
Johnson, one of the most famous living ventriloquists, shares the stage with a cast of inanimate characters, telling jokes and recounting the history of his craft.
In his Blogspot blog for the show, Johnson today takes on the topic of whether his show is appropriate for children: We get a lot of kids and the show certainly is appropriate for all children over four years old. There is one bad word in the entire evening. The word is calculated to have an affect and gets one of the biggest reactions of the show. It is not the word itself but the set up of the scene that causes the reaction. The ushers at the Hayes are aware enough to let parents know that it will be said when they think it is necessary to say so.
That was the case when one parent had a small child in attendance several nights ago. The parent was grateful for the “heads up” and was ready for any reaction from the child. The actual line is “well get a f----ing chisel” delivered by one of the wooden actors on stage. The reaction this evening was no different than usual and the crowd went crazy with laughter. The little girl immediately turned to her Father and said, “Daddy…. What’s a chisel.”
The fine print on the ticket deal: One free ticket for a child between the ages of 8 and 18 with the purchase of each adult ticket at regular price (orchestra or front mezzanine only.) Offer not valid Saturday evenings or performances Nov. 24-26. Offer is subject to availability and prior sale; not valid on prior purchases; cannot be combined with any other discounts or promotions. Tickets must be purchased in pairs; minimum 2 tickets, maximum 10 tickets per order. No exchanges or refunds. Telephone and Internet orders are subject to standard service fees. Purchase at the box office, online, or by calling (212) 947-8844. "Jay Johnson: The Two and Only!" has an open-ended run at the Helen Hayes Theatre, located at 240 W. 44th St., map.
