Coney Island's Astroland closing after 2007 season

Coney Island's Astroland Amusement Park has been sold and will close after the 2007 season, Bloomberg News reports.

The new owners, Thor Equities, have been planning to convert the boardwalk space into a year-round Las Vegas-style entertainment complex. Astroland has been in operation since 1962.

The landmark Cyclone roller coaster will not close; it will remain under the operation of the Albert family, according to the Associated Press.

Thor plans to break ground within 18 months but zoning changes and other hurdles still stand in the way, according to Crain's.
