Symbolic WTC cross moves to St. Peter's Church
The steel cross at the World Trade Center site today will be moved to a temporary location at St. Peter's Catholic Church to make way for construction.
The 20-foot steel T-beam in the shape of a cross was found in the rubble at the site on September 13, 2001 and has been mounted at the site ever since as a symbol of hope. Once the official Memorial Museum opens, as early as 2009, the cross will likely be sent there.
St. Peter's is located a few blocks north of the WTC site, at the corner of Church and Barclay streets, map.
