Open House New York cancels and adds events

ohny.2006-thumb.jpgIf you're planning on attending any part of Open House New York this weekend, and you should, it's a good time to start checking the schedule for changes and make reservations to the events that haven't already booked up.

Two dozen changes (and here,) have already been posted to the OHNY site, including the addition of the 45th floor of World Trade Center 7.

There's also bad news. The cancellations: tower access at the Jefferson Market Library, Battle for New York re-enactment at the Old Stone House, the Empty Vessel Project on the Gowanus Canal, the Thirteen/WNET studios and Exit Art, the original home of the McGraw-Hill publishing company.

Many spots are fully booked: tours of the United Nations, Brooklyn Navy Yard, Tom Otterness' studio, the MTA substation, Murray's Cheese caves, The Solaire's green roof, the Atlantic Avenue and Red Hook walking tours, the Harlem One Stop Tour and the offices of balmori associates, inc.

There are still a few spots available for the Brooklyn Army Terminal tours (718) 630-2421 and Save Ellis Island's voice mail, (212) 363-3206 ext. 580, appears to still be accepting reservations for tours of the hospital grounds on the south side of the island.

Other changes of note: the Little Red Lighthouse is now open Saturday only from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. while Grace Church is open Sunday only, from noon to 4 p.m.

Also be aware that Governors Island ferries will depart Manhattan on the hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday with a maximum capacity of 250 people per trip.

Still with the cancellations and maxed-out tours, there are still over 150 other locations to choose from - and they're all free this weekend.

Update: A Fort Totten tour has been added and PortSide New York has details about how to visit the retired oil tanker the Mary Whalen and the fact that the trip includes access inside the Brooklyn container terminal.
