NYC adopts $45 taxi flat-rate to JFK from Manhattan

That $45 taxi trip from JFK Airport to Manhattan will soon work both ways, thanks to a unanimous vote today by the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

The new fare will likely go into effect in December, according to the Associated Press.

Additionally, the TLC also voted to raise the charge for sitting in traffic. It effectively rasies the typical cab fare by $1. When the new rates take effect, taxi meters will add an extra 40 cents a minute, up from from the current 20 cents.

The change was needed to offset drivers' rising costs, include fuel. In May 2004, taxi fees were raised 26 percent.
