JetBlue, AirTran to fly from Hudson Valley's Stewart

stewartintl.JPGLike the Fifth Beatle, Hudson Valley's Stewart International Airport is in the running to become New York City's "fourth airport."

And despite the practical hurdles -- like the distance and lack of direct public transportation -- both JetBlue and AirTran will start flying from the airport in coming months.

Starting December 19, JetBlue will start daily service to Florida with an introductory one-way fare of $79 if purchased by November 9. The regular fares will range from $99 to $299 each way. Service will begin with Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, with West Palm Beach flights added January 5, the company said today.

Beginning January 11, AirTran will begin flying from Stewart to Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa with introductory $79 and $89 one-way fares.

Stewart, 65 miles from Manhattan, is located in Newburgh near the junction of the New York State Thruway and I-84, map. The airport is already served by American Eagle, Allegiant, Northwest and US Airways Express.
