Dennehy, Plummer on Broadway for 'Inherit the Wind'

Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer have signed on for a 12-week Broadway revival of "Inherit the Wind," the 1955 dramatization of the Scopes monkey trial of 1925 on the teaching of evolution in schools, according to Variety.

Written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Lee, "Inherit the Wind" will play the Lyceum Theatre starting in March 2007.

Casting was also announced today for the lead role of "Legally Blonde," also set to hit Broadway next year. Laura Bell Bundy will take on the role originated on screen by Reese Witherspoon, according to BroadwayWorld. On stage, Bundy was "Hairspray"'s first Amber Von Tussle and was the first replacement for Kristin Chenoweth's Glinda in "Wicked."

"Legally Blonde" is scheduled to begin previews on April 3 with opening night set for April 29.

Also of note, Playbill reports that the main leads of "Jersey Boys" have all extended their contracts beyond their October 1 deadline. The length of the extensions is unknown. "Jersey Boys" won this year's Tony for best musical.
