Ground Zero's Tribute Center opens to public Sept. 18
Just days shy of the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on the World Trade center, the doors opened today to The Tribute Center, the first official visitors’ center at Ground Zero.
Today's opening has been reserved for families, survivors and emergency responders; the public will be allowed in starting September 18, according to the New York Times.
Located at 120 Liberty Street, on the south side of the Ground Zero, the Tribute Center will serve as the site's official museum until the permanent one is completed, now expected sometime in 2009.
Admission details: When it opens to the public, visitors will be asked to make a $10 contribution, or $40 for a family, though they can walk in for free. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday and Tuesday. Earlier: Tribute Center to open week of September 5
