American Airlines tests mid-flight sale of $2 water

Select American Airlines flights from JFK to San Francisco are testing a new program of selling bottled water for $2, the company announced Tuesday.

The half-litre Dannon water bottles will be sold to passegers who want their own private bottle, an AA spokeswoman told NewYorkology today. Water will still be free for anyone patient enough to wait for regular beverage service, where flight attendants will pour water from larger plastic water bottles.

For $3 each, they're also selling junk food: Klondike Movie Bites® ice cream, Otis Spunkmeyer Chocolate Chunk Cookies, Lay's Stax® Crisps and Twix '4 To Go' candy bars.

The week-long test runs through Sunday on other American Airlines routes as well.
