Tribute Center to open week of September 5

tributecentersketch.JPGThe Tribute Center, the first substantial visitors' center for Ground Zero, has slightly delayed its opening date but hopes to open its doors just prior to the five year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center.

It will open sometime during the week of September 5, a Tribute Center official told NewYorkology by e-mail today.

The center, located across the street from the WTC site and next door to FDNY's Engine Company 10 and Ladder Company 10, will house tributes to those who died at the Trade Center in the Sept. 11 and Feb. 26, 1993 attacks, a timeline of events, remnants from the site and models of the buildings.

Since last fall the Tribute Center has been coordinating daily tours of the Ground Zero area. The walking tours cost $10 and are offerered weekdays at 1 and 3 p.m. and weekends at noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Reservations can be made online or by calling (866) 737-1184.

The Tribute Center is located at 120 Liberty St., map. The separate World Trade Center Memorial and Museum will be located at Ground Zero itself, but is not expected to open for several years.
