'Legally Blonde,' 'High Fidelity' set Broadway dates
A musical of "Legally Blonde," which earlier posted a casting call for "Abercrombie & Fitch fraternity and sorority types," will open on Broadway in April, Playbill reports.
It's based on the Amanda Brown novel and Reese Witherspoon movie in which a bubbly sorority girl gets smart to follow her ex-boyfriend to Harvard Law -- and then show him up. It will begin previews at the Palace Theatre on April 3, 2007 with opening night scheduled for April 29. Before Broadway, it will play the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco in January and February.
Casting has not been confirmed.
"Legally Blonde" will join several other Broadway musicals based on movies, such as "The Wedding Singer," "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and "The Lion King." Also coming next season will be "High Fidelity," (which was a John Cusack movie based on the Nick Hornby novel.) For Broadway, it will be set in a Brooklyn record store and feature songs such as "Ready to Settle" and "Desert Island Top 5 Break-Ups," producers revealed at a sneak preview earlier this year. "High Fidelity" will start previews November 20, with opening night set for December 7, 2006.
