Ticket brokers selling 'Three Days of Rain' below cost
Heading into Julia Roberts' final two weeks of her Broadway debut in "Three Days of Rain," ticket brokers are resorting to selling tickets to the nearly sold-out show at less than face value, according to the Daily News.
Although the paper calls it a "dismal" situation, the theater is at 99 percent to 101 percent capacity every night (including standing-room tickets,) the show's producer told the Daily News. Broadway grosses for the week ending May 28 (available at Playbill.com,) show "Three Days of Rain" was at 100.2 percent capacity for the week with an average paid ticket price of $110.37. It grossed $950,614 for the week. Hardly dismal. The quality of the show is another matter altogether.
A quick survey this morning found Friday night tickets through Onlineseats.com ranging from $85 to $305; Saturday matinee seats from $90 to $440 at TickCo and Craigslist offers ranging from $65 to $325 each. Telecharge, the official ticket seller, still has seats available from $101.25 (plus handling fees.) Previously Telecharge had some mezzanine seats priced at $61.25 and $81.25, but those are sold out.
"Three Days of Rain" plays through June 18 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, 242 W. 45th St., map. (Bring a sweater; the AC is brutal.)
