Steep forecast: top-tier NY hotel rates rising 15 pct

thepeninsula.lobby.JPGPrices at New York City's top hotels are expected to rise as much as 15 percent this summer according to a forecast released this past week by PricewaterhouseCoopers.

The report, according to the Wall Street Journal, (paid subscription required,) found that the rise for high-end resorts would be the largest increase in decades.

Although the following weren't necessarily included in the study, here's a sample of base room rates currently available for July 8, the Saturday night two weeks away (as available on each hotel's own website):

Mandarin Oriental - $935
St. Regis - $705
Four Seasons - $625
The Peninsula - $605
Ritz-Carlton, Central Park - $495
The Lowell - $455
The Carlyle - $425
The Pierre - $315
Jumeirah Essex House - $299
