Plans approved for smaller Sept. 11 museum
Scaled-back plans for the memorial and museum at Ground Zero were approved today by the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. but many families of the Sept. 11 victims remain angry that their loved ones' names will be displayed in random order.
The earlier plan, besides being bigger and more expensive, called for the names to be listed in the museum underground, but protests resulted in them being moved upstairs.
A pair of reflecting pools, waterfalls and a tree-filled plaza will appear at ground level with the museum situated below ground. Elsewhere on the site will be the Freedom Tower, and other office buildings, including World Trade Center 7, which has already been rebuilt and reopened for tenants.
