Coney Island Lighthouse may open for tours in 2007
The Coney Island Lighthouse is on track to open to the public next year for the first time in its 116-year history, according to the Daily News.
The lighthouse is located on the western tip of Coney Island in the private community of Seagate, between B47 and B48 streets, according to the lighthouse's profile on the webpage for the Long Island chapter of the US Lighthouse Society.
Also known as the Norton Point Lighthouse, its skeletal tower stands 75-foot tall and has 87 steps leading to the black and white top.
Tours would cost about $5 and include a visit next door to the home of Frank Schubert, the last U.S. civilian lighthouse keeper. He ran the lighthouse from 1960 until his death in 2003.
