Schnack to host 30-inch hot dog eating competition

schnack.JPGIn need of something to whet your appetite before Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog-Eating Contest?

Enter Schnack, which will test not how many hot dogs can be eaten in 12 minutes, but how fast one person can eat a single 30-inch hot dog. Schnack is old school for this Memorial Day weekend showdown; contestants are forbidden from separating the bun from the dog and are allowed free beer to wash it down during the contest.

The dog is a 100 percent beef Stahl Meyer served on 28-inch bun secially prepared by Caputo's Bakery. Qualifying heats are set for may 10, 12 and 15 with the big contest May 29th at 1 p.m. at Schnack, 122 Union St., Brooklyn, map.

As for the 4th of July, Takeru Kobayashi is already signed on to defend his title this summer, in hopes of topping the 49 hot dogs he consumed in 2005.
