Rumor du jour - U2 may play Apple Store opening

When Apple computers opens its fancy new Fifth Avenue store just across from Central Park, iPod-loving U2 might just be on hand to help get the party started, according to an anonymous tipster at the Curbed blog.

If that's not enough to get you excited, there will also be free T-shirts.

Apple will open the doors at 6 p.m. Friday to the new "cube" store, located at 767 Fifth Avenue at 59th Street, map.

The last big free U2 show in NYC was November 22, 2004.
