Gramercy Park Hotel clarifies park key 'access'

gramercyparkhotel.logo.JPGAs Ian Schrager's Gramercy Park Hotel nears its August 8 grand reopening, (with an introductory rate of $250 a night,) the logistics remain fuzzy over how the hotel's guests will get their hands on keys to the most exclusive park in Manhattan.

Despite what NewYorkology was told a week ago, another hotel spokeswoman today said it is still unclear how many sets of keys will be reserved for hotel guests and even whether the guests will be chaperoned across the street to the park by a hotel employee. (The Gramercy Park Trust tends be be rather particular about who gets in.) The main marketing term appears to be "access" to the park.

However, that word is still missing on the Gramercy Park Hotel's new web site, which lists "key to private park" as the first amenity for every room type.

The web site, which is accepting reservations, also offers what may be the first glimpse at the prices and amenities for the 185-room hotel.

gramercy.green.JPGCurrently the most basic room type, the superior room, has a rack rate of $525 a night but a special introductory rate of $250 through September 4. That will get you a 220- to 275-square foot, courtyard-facing room with oak floors and a queen bed with 400-thread-count linens. All rooms have feather beds, mahogany details and "handmade imported rugs, luxurious fabrics, embroidered chairs and custom furniture by various artists" as well as a "curated collection of photography." They all come with “best of” bathroom amenities, a flat screen LCD TV and DVD, customized iPod-docking station and the wireless internet is "available."

The 550-square-foot one-bedroom suite facing the park is priced at $740 a night, or $450 until September 4, according to the web site. Better yet, the custom Gramercy one-bedroom suite will go for $2,500 a night, offering up to 950 square feet of space, a living/dining room facing Gramercy Park, a powder room -- and an option to add on the deluxe loft room as well.

The Gramercy Park Hotel is located at 2 Lexington Ave., map.
