$10 seats for Duncan Sheik's 'Spring Awakening'

springawakening.gifWhen the Atlantic Theater Company's "Spring Awakening" begins previews on Thursday, it will also kick off the troupe's "Play for the Price of a Movie" deal, in which 21 seats at each performance will sell for a mere $10.

"These seats are located on the stage of the Atlantic Theater, but don't worry, you won't be asked to sing!" the promoters promise.

"Spring Awakening," now an alt-rock coming-of-age musical, was written in 1891 by Frank Wedekind but then banned for 70 years. The Atlantic Theater's version has been reworked by Grammy nominee Duncan Sheik and playwright Steven Sater. It's directed by Michael Mayer.

The $10 tickets can be purchased at the box office, which opens two hours before curtain, or ordered by phone: (646) 216-1119. You can also order via e-mail at playforthepriceofamovie (insert the at sign) atlantictheater.org. E-mail orders need to include your name, performance date and number of tickets you want, your billing address, credit card number and expiration date, a contact phone number and a line about where you heard about this offer.

But if even $10 sounds like a stretch, the Atlantic Theater is currently accepting calls for usher shifts.

"Spring Awakening" is scheduled to play through July 9th at the Atlantic Theater Company, located at 336 W. 20th St., between 8th and 9th avenues, map.
