Courtyard by Marriott among 'midpriced' openings

Noting that smaller hotels are becoming the norm in Manhattan, the New York Times surveys the "midpriced" offerings on track to open within the year.

The next in line to open appears to be a 226-room Courtyard by Marriott, the first branded chain hotel to open on the Upper East Side. Located at 410 East 92nd St. near First Avenue, (map,) room rates will start at $179.

Next year, Courtyard by Marriott plans to open a Harlem hotel at 125th Street and Park Avenue, map.

Also mentioned in the story is the Hilton Garden Inn TriBeCa, which is scheduled to open with 150 rooms in the fall at 6 York St., map. This past October, Holiday Inn Express in Manhattan with rates starting at $180, opened at 15 W. 45th St., map.

Not mentioned in the Manhattan-centric article is the Holiday Inn Express scheduled to open as early as July 15 in Brooklyn's Park Slope neighborhood. Room rates there will start at $129.
