St. Patrick's parade boycotted for gay exclusions
The 245th annual New York St. Patrick's Day Parade will get underway at 11 a.m. this morning, but don't expect to see City Council Speaker Christine Quinn taking part.
Quinn and many others are again boycotting the parade because of its refusal to allow participation from the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization.
Parade organizers adamantly defend their decision, like the choice words parade chairman John Dunleavy shared with the Irish Times this week: "If an Israeli group wants to march in New York, do you allow Neo-Nazis into their parade? If African Americans are marching in Harlem, do they have to let the Ku Klux Klan into their parade?" he asked pointedly. "People have rights. If we let the ILGO in, is it the Irish Prostitute Association next?" Earlier: St. Patrick's Day Parade, without Lenten Friday rules
