'Spamalot' aims for world's largest coconut orchestra

spamalot.jpg"Spamalot" will celebrate its first year on Broadway on Wednesday with a run to set the Guinness World Record™ for a performance by the world's largest coconut orchestra.

The song: "Bright Side of Life."

Anyone is allowed to show up to Shubert Alley, participate and snag a pair of "specially designed, record-setting coconuts."

The event will take place after the Wednesday matinee of "Spamalot," which ends at 4:20 p.m. Anyone in the audience automatically gets coconuts, but walk-on players can show up as early as 3:45 p.m.

Michael McGrath (who plays Patsy, the coconut-playing sidekick to King Arthur in "Spamalot") will teach the crowd to play and lead a rehearsal leading up to the actual performance.

Event participants should plan on staying in Shubert Alley until about 4:45 p.m.

2007 Update: London fans set new record.
