'Sopranos' bus tour: from Satriale's to the Bada Bing
(Update: The tour has been re-routed because Satriale's gone condo.)
As HBO's mafia-drama "The Sopranos" begins its "final" season, one tour company is raking in the profits from loyal fans anxious for a real-life glimpse of some of the less-then-scenic scenes of northern New Jersey.
The Associated Press tagged along on one of On Location Tours' four-hour luxury-bus tours of more than 40 locations from past Sopranos episodes. Apparently the tour operators take their Sopranos rather seriously: "This is the new literary landmark tour," company owner Georgette Blau told AP. The tour passes by the spot where Christopher was shot, where the Feds milk the mobsters for tips and of course where they hit men go to eat and watch nearly naked women dance.
The bus stops for a Kodak moment at Satriale's, which is closed, though owned by HBO and filled with props, the tour guide said. And the final stop is a tour of the Bada Bing strip club, better known as Tony Soprano's headquarters. In real life, its a strip club on Route 17 called Satin Dolls that also sells hats, T-shirts and shot glasses with "The Sopranos" and Bada Bing logos.
