Search for JFK's lost whippet enters second month
More than one month after a prize-winning whippet escaped from her cage at Kennedy Airport, volunteers, psychics, tracking dogs and pet detectives continue the search for Vivi.
Daily updates on the search are still posted at the American Whippet Club web site, with promising news such as this item offered up on Thursday:
We hope she is still in the park/greenbelt area in Flushing/Bayside, where she has obviously now spent several days and been sighted several times. The 3-year old whippet, formally registered as Champion Bohem C'est La Vie, got out of her cage while Delta employees were loading her onto a plane to take her home to California after she competed in the Westminster Kennel Club show held at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 13 and 14. The dog's owner was already on the plane when Vivi escaped and it's unclear how she got out.
The dog's breeder provided more information on the whippet web site about Delta:On a postive note, Delta has asked for suggestions how shipping conditions for dogs can be improved. At our suggestions they are working on implementing changes to their requirements at check-in and will probably require some type of releaseable tie in addition to the latch on each crate. If so, Vivi’s misfortune could perhaps at least save other dogs from a similar experience. Earlier: Delta, Port Authority, volunteers search for whippet
