Fifth Avenue webcam turned off 'at request of NBC'

fifthavewebcam.stpatrick.bmpToo bad for you if you'd hoped to catch a few glimpses of the St. Patrick's Parade via the always-on Fifth Avenue Webcam. As soon as the parade got underway, the web page carried this message: "At the request of NBC, we cannot carry the parade on our webcam."

NBC, by the way, was the same network that televised the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and inserted in a fake ending, so as to not inform viewers that the 515-pound M&M balloon knocked a Times Square light fixture onto the heads of two sisters from Albany.

Update: The parade is still visible, though at mediocre angles, via the Fifth Avenue webcams operated by the city's Department of Transportation.
