Blue Moon Hotel opens in restored tenement building
The Blue Moon Hotel officially opened for business two weeks ago on the Lower East Side, owner/developer Randy Settenbrino told NewYorkology today.
The former tenement building has been fully renovated and equipped with wifi, LCD televisions, mini refrigerators, bar sinks, air conditioning and other amenities once uncommon in the historically immigrant neighborhood.
All 22 rooms are open and accepting guests, but the hotel’s kosher restaurant (and room service) won't be functional until late spring or summer, Settenbrino said. The property is still in its soft opening, with promotional room rates -- $325 to 875 per night – good through March. Beginning in April, the cheapest room starts at $390 and climbs to $1,050.
The rooms, including six suites, are all unnumbered, instead using the names of celebrities from back in the day, such as Jimmy Durante, James Cagney, Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor and the Marx Brothers. Two-thirds of the rooms have balconies and two-thirds can sleep up to four people, Settenbrino said.
The Blue Moon Hotel is located at 100 Orchard St. just below Delancey, map.
