Christie's selling 'Eloise's slippers' in Plaza auction

eloiseslippers.christies.jpgA pair of "Eloise's slippers" will go on auction at Christie's next month as The Plaza continues clearing out goods from the nearly 100-year old hotel as at renovates and makes way for a few hundred condos.

The Plaza auction will include hundreds of other items, such as chandeliers, murals, stained glass, a brass Oyster Bar sign, dining room tables, four-poster beds, a baby grand piano, brass doorknobs and 30 squares of oak parquet dance floor from the grand ballroom.

Here are a few more interesting lots worth a look:

A stained oak corner humidor cabinet - estimated at $8,000 to $12,000.
A collection from Trader Vic's Restaurant, including a monkey chandelier and cast iron ash trays - estimated at $2,000 to $3,000.
A collection of uniforms including two black and white maid's uniforms, one grey maid's uniform, three bellhop shirts, and one Plaza doorman's coat - estimated $800 to $1,200.

The auction will be held March 15 at Christie's at 20 Rockefeller Plaza. The items will be on view from March 11 through 14.

The slippers for the fictional Eloise, children's size 11, are expected to fetch between $400 and $600. But if your pocketbook says more eBay than Christie's, try these ladies slippers (starting bid $7,) or cheaper still, a bottle of Plaza-logoed "COLLECTABLE -SHAMPOO" (starting bid $1.99.)

The Plaza will reopen next year as part hotel, part condo and part luxury shopping emporium.
