'Chronicles' hits No. 1, Magnolia Bakery crazy richer
The newest indirect patron saint of Magnolia Bakery, "The Chronicles of Narnia," this weekend finished No. 1 at the box office.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, Magnolia's cupcakes got a big plug from a "Saturday Night Live" rap video parody of two dorky white homeboys buying a baker's dozen from Magnolia to go with an afternoon of "Chronic."
As if Magnolia needs the publicity. The line for the $1.75 cupcakes usually winds around the West Village corner and an occasional tour bus stops by from the "Sex and the City Tour."
The SNL video, "Lazy Sunday" has also spawned its own line of T-shirts -- Mr. Pibb + Red Vines = Crazy Delicious, Baker's Dozen and You can call me Aaron Burr by the way I'm dropping Hamiltons -- and there's even a bobblehead set currently bid up to $66 on eBay.
Magnolia Bakery is located at 401 Bleecker St., on the corner of West 11th, map.
