Chelsea art scene stretching to 27th and 12th Ave.
The boundaries of the Chelsea gallery scene get redrawn today as a batch of young owners open shop in a massive space on West 27th Street between 11th and 12th avenues -- home of the former Tunnel nightclub.
All seven of the gallery owners -- including Oliver Kamm Gallery, Foxy Production, Derek Eller Gallery, Clementine Gallery, John Connelly Presents and Wallspace -- are members of the New Art Dealers Alliance.
Time Out magazine, in profiling the move, describes the northwestern pull from 24th Street, the "Broadway of gallery rows."
"Larry Gagosian Gallery, the Everest of Chelsea's art scene, is at the corner of West 24th Street and Eleventh Avenue -- until now, the neighborhood's western boundary," Time Out says.
