Brooklyn may rename Church Avenue for Bob Marley

A community effort is underway to rename a three-mile stretch of road in Brooklyn as "The Hon. Bob Marley Avenue," according to the Jamaica Information Service, the government's news service.

The name change would alter Church Avenue between 98th Street and Beckford Avenue, map, a neighborhood populated by many Jamaicans.

The approval by Brooklyn Community Board 17 now moves the request to the New York City Council, which could consider the matter next month, according to the JIS.

If approved, one suspects the "The Hon. Bob Marley Avenue," would quickly join the ranks of Joey Ramone Place outside CBGB's as the most-stolen sign in the city.
