Times Square: now 57 percent more crowded
Earlier this week, head counters on Times Square determined there are 57 percent more pedestrians jamming up the sidewakls than there were about the same time last year, the New York Times reports.
How crowded is it?
Positioned at 1501 Broadway between 43rd and 44th streets, the counters clicked off 9,226 pedestrians on Wednesday between 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., a 57 percent increase from the count on Dec. 18, 2004. The count was conducted by the Times Square's business improvement district.
As for hotels, they were at 90 percent capacity even before the final crush of New Year's Eve revelers arrived, according to Cristyne Nicholas, the president of NYC & Co., the city's tourism bureau.
