Restaurant sues MTA, union, city over transit strike

The owners of the Russian Samovar restaurant today filed suit against the Transport Workers Union, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the city over the three-day transit strike, the Associated Press reports.

The restaurant lost 60 percent to 80 percent of its daily revenue, according to the Russian Samovar's manager. The suit is seeking $25,000 for each day of the strike and potential class-action status with up to $5 million a day for all other businesses affected by the strike.

The restaurant, until recently co-owned by dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, opened in 1986 at the former location of an old Frank Sinatra hangout, Jilly's. Russian Samovar is located at 256 52nd St., map.
