NY Times list of best Manhattan hotels under $250

The New York Times today suggests 10 Manhattan hotels under $250 a night where you can expect "a good night's sleep, a hot shower and a place to secure your shopping bags" but not necessarily "deluxe accommodations and top-notch service."

The New York Times list:

Affinia Dumont - 150 E. 34th St., map. "From $199. A business and pet-friendly spot with gym and spa."

Hotel Chelsea - 222 W. 23rd St., map. "From $195. The storied bohemian landmark."

Doubletree Metropolitan - 569 Lexington Ave., map. "From $159. A recently renovated Morris Lapidus landmark."

Excelsior Hotel - 45 W. 81st St., map. "From $229. Cozy Upper West Side elegance, steps from Central Park."

Gershwin Hotel - 7 E. 27th St., map. "From $119. Hotel-cum-hostel popular with young Europeans."

Hotel QT - 125 W. 45th St., map. "From $125. A cheap chic hotel by André Balazs."

Hotel Stanford - 43 W. 32nd St., map. "From $189. The staff at this Koreatown hotel speaks Korean and English (and Spanish)."

Hudson Hotel - 356 W. 58th St., map. "From $199. A former Y.W.C.A. redesigned by Philippe Starck."

Off SoHo Suites Hotel - 11 Rivington St., map. "Euro-style suites between SoHo and the Lower East Side." Looks like NYT has a typo here. The paper says: "Economy rooms from $199 (sharing kitchen and bath with another room); suites from $189," but the hotel web site says room rates start at $119.

The Time - 224 W. 49th St., map. "From $189. Another hip, high-concept hotel in Times Square."
