JetBlue begins work on $875 mln terminal at JFK
New York-based low-cast airline JetBlue on Wednesday broke ground for an $875-million terminal it's building at JFK, allowing it to add
26 gates by 2009 and double its number of flights daily.
Plans incorporate the 1962 Eero Saarin-designed now-vacant TWA terminal for use by restaurants and shops, according to the Daily News.
JetBlue, which is experiencing its first year with an operating loss since it went public in 2002, currently flies 340 flights daily, operating in 33 cities.
The Post points out that the "groundbreaking" was strictly ceremonial, since construction had already begun at JetBlue, which already accounts for one-quarter of all passenger traffic at Kennedy.
