Buy a walk-on Broadway role, or Hammerstein dinner

Well, you can't get to the top of the Statue of Liberty's flame or onto the private railway platform under the Waldorf-Astoria, but Conde Nast Traveler has a how-to guide of other exclusive treats travelers around the world can buy to secure rare VIP access, such as private tours of Nefetari's tomb or President Putin's residence.

For New York, Conde Nast suggests only two VIP packages, both on offer from Discover New York with Kitt Garrett.

For a starting price of $4,500, you could have dinner with Andy Hammerstein, whose grandfather Oscar Jr. is famous for Broadway hits "South Pacific," "The King and I," "The Sound of Music," and "Oklahoma!" Andy Hammerstein, a painter and lecturer, "will regale you with tales from his family's colorful past."

But if you have at least $30,000 to spend, you can spend an afternoon with actors, singers, and dancers from a Broadway show, attend costume fittings and rehearsals and snare a walk-on role.
