Wired opens holiday-only gadget store in SoHo

The Wired Store opened in Manhattan today, decked out in pink and sporting the logo "geek out in style."
But in an age of immediate gratificaiton, Wired leaves shoppers wanting: you can only place orders at the Wired Store; shipping comes later.
The store-cum-gallery has about 70 different products on display, ranging from solar-charging backpacks and DVD projectors to noise-canceling headphones and running shoes that change to match your stride.
Everything is hands on here, meaning you can sit in the $1,599 5B inc media chair with built in speakers so intense your butt will vibrate along with the movie, just as if you were cruising the boulevard in your Lowrider on Saturday night trying to impress the ladies. Nearby, there's a Danby Chill N' Tap Keg coooler for $549.
You can get your hands all over the OQO Model 01, a full computer and keyboard small enough to fit in a jacket pocket. But with battery life around an hour an half if you've got a lot going on, it's maybe a bit steep at $1,899.
On the cheaper side, though lacking in all exciting moving parts, is the $59 notebook privacy filter that covers your screen to fend off prying eyes. Rest assured there are also gobs of cell phones, cameras and camcorders with lots of buttons to push.
To extend the geekines, there will be in-store DJs, coffe and chocolate tastings, and free weekend rides via a VW to your next shopping destination if you place a gadget order using the Wired computers.
The Wired store is open only until December 24. It's located at 160 Wooster, at the corner of Houston, map.
Update: Wired's 2006 holiday shop reopens in SoHo.
