Viv's Guide targets Manhattan's best cheap eats

VivsGuide_Cover.jpg
The average price of a meal in New York is now $37.61, according to Zagat, but there's another guide to the city focusing on meals for less than half that price.

"VivsGuide Manhattan: An Undercover Look at the City's Cheap Eats" is a little paperback guide to nearly 900 Manhattan restaurants where the average entrée is $15 or less.

Released this past summer, the book also has a secret code that will get you free access to the book's companion site, which lets you search by cuisine, neighborhood and price range. A walking-distance search lets you enter any intersection in Manhattan to get the details of all the Viv-reviewed restaurants near you.

The website is password-protected, but a free sample of the listings (in pdf format,) includes reviews of 'ino in the West Village, Pollos Bravo in Harlem and Bread & Olive in Midtown. Research for the second edition of the book is underway, with those new reviews appearing on the site as they come in.

But if you don't want to buy the book, you can still join the NYC Cheap Eats Club for free. Viv's Cheap Eats Club meets up to eat at cheap restaurants, rather than just read about them.
