Italy says Met Museum agrees to return looted art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has agreed to return several artworks illegally trafficked out of Italy, Rocco Buttiglione, the country's culture minister told Bloomberg News.

The Met's director, Philippe de Montebello, declined to talk to the news service but said in a statement that his Tuesday meetings with the officials in Itlay "was constructive and could pave the way to a mutually satisfactory arrangement."

More than 30 items are in dispute, including a 2,500-year-old wine pot by the Greek artist Euphronios the Met purchased in 1972 for $1 million.
