CBGB negotiating for extra 10 months on Bowery
CBGB is negotiating an agreement with its landlord that would allow the iconic rock club to remain in its current location for the next eight to 10 months, the club's owner told Crain's business paper.
Hilly Kristal, the owner of the lease-less but legendary club, said he will be out of the Lower East Side location by the end of 2006 and is looking to reopen on the West Side, in Times Square or Delancey Street. And Las Vegas is still on the table, he told Crain's.
After three decades at 315 Bowery, CBGB was evicted earlier this year while owing thousands of dollars in back rent. Despite the eviction, the club hasn't moved and bands still play. The club helped launched acts such as Blondie, The Ramones and Talking Heads.
