Progress at The Plaza; luxury retailers queue up

Renovation of The Plaza is proceeding on schedule and high-end commercial tenants -- such as Louis Vuitton and Giorgio Armani -- could be signing leases for ground- and lower-floor space as soon as next month, according to the New York Sun.

Closed since April, the hotel is getting a full renovation that will convert many of the rooms into condos that could sell for upwards of $30 million. It's expected to open by the end of 2006, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the hotel.
