NYC flights delayed more than 30 percent of the time
Flights at New York's three primary airports were late more than 30 percent of the time from January to August, ranking the airspace as the most delayed -- and the busiest -- in the United States, according to the Post.
The main cause for the delays was the weather, and frequently it was bad weather elsewhere in the country causing delays here, airport officials said.
Among the 33 busiest airports in the United States, JFK ranked 31st with 69 percent on-time flights; LaGuardia was 32nd with 67 percent of its flights on schedule; and Newark hit bottom at 33rd with only 66 percent of its flights hitting the mark.
The best advice in the story: One way that passengers can help is to travel early. Government data show that about 90 percent of flights that leave the three airports from 7 to 8 a.m. do so on time. Earlier: Port Authority floats idea for new airport in NYC area
