NY Waterway orders eight duck-tour boat/buses
NY Waterway has ordered eight amphibious buses it hopes to use to operate by-land-and-harbor "duck" tours in partnership with Gray Line, according to the New York Times.
However, they face plenty of impediments to opening, as evidenced by StageCoach and New York Ducks, two other companies that have announced still-incomplete plans for amphibious tours of New York City.
NY Waterway is hoping the Army Corps of Engineers will build a boat ramp for the duck boats at Pier 78, located at 38th Street on the Hudson River. All this from a company that this time last year warned it might cease its commuter ferry operations "any day" due to cash flow issues. Since then, it sold "half its fleet to a company controlled by William B. Wachtel, a lawyer and leading fund-raiser for Fernando Ferrer's mayoral campaign," according to the Times.
