Museum of Chinese in Americas to move, expand

yellowperil.jpgThe 25-year-old Museum of Chinese in Americas will move to new location late next year, expanding into about five times its current space, Downtown Express reports.

The interior will be designed by architect Maya Lin, a Chinese-American who designed the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington D.C.

The 12,350 square foot space will include expanded exhibition galleries, a community tearoom and a museum shop. It will occupy the ground floor and basement of 147-150 Lafayette St. Map.

The Museum of the Chinese in America is currently located at 70 Mulberry St. Map.

One of the current exhibitions at the museum is "Archivist of the Yellow Peril: Yoshio Kishi Collecting for a New America," which examines the sterotypical Asian menace portrayed in U.S. pop culture, (pictured.)
