MTA OKs $1 weekend fares Thanksgiving to New Year

The MTA this morning approved a plan to lower subway and bus fares to $1 for all weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as every day from Christmas through New Year's Day, NY1 is reporting.

Discounts will apply to several other MTA fares, including the addition of four free days to the monthly metro card and a free day added to weekly metro cards during the holiday season.

The half-price policy was proposed last week after the MTA realized it was sitting in a windfall of nearly a billion dollars.
