Love Saves the Day to close in January
Love Saves the Day, an excellent, quirky East Village shop where you can buy vintage Playboy magazines, KISS lunchboxes, plastic poop, and original toys from shows such as "Battlestar Gallactica" and "Thunderbirds Are Go," will close its doors in January due to a spike in rent, according to The Villager.
There is some good news: LSD's owner is in negotiations to move to a new location, 64 E. Seventh St., for an October 2006 reopening.
Originally opened in 1966 at 77 Seventh St., Love Saves the Day has been at the corner of Seventh Street and Second Avenue for more than 20 years. In 1985, the shop made an appearance in Madonna's "Desperately Seeking Susan" movie.
The shop's previous landlord recently died and his wife has raised the rent to $15,000 from just over $5,000 a month, Leslie Herson, the store’s owner and founder, told The Villager. "New York is losing its individuality because little stores like mine can’t compete," she said.
