Few bargains at new 'mid-priced' NYC hotels

Although Manhattan is getting a slew of new "mid-priced" hotel brands opening up, anywhere else, those prices would say "suite," according to USA Today.

A Hilton Garden Inn opened in the Theater District earlier this week, but today's price for a room is $349. Other mid-price brands -- Courtyard by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels -- can cost you as much as $499 a night in Manhattan, according to teh USA Today survey.

Even Apple Core Hotels, which runs brands such as Super 8, Red Roof and La Quinta in Manhattan, has kicked the old $89-a-night rates out the window. The survey found rooms at those hotels for $210 to $320.

Even more "mid-priced" properties are in the works: The first Wingate Inn will open next year; Courtyard by Marriott has two more coming along; and Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Four Points by Sheraton each have one more Manhattan hotel in development.
