Free wi-fi hotspots scheduled for Central Park
Central Park, Union Square and Washington Square Park are among the latest public spaces on tap to get free wi-fi access, according the the Daily News.
In all, 10 parks will get free access courtesy of Wi-Fi Salon, a company that hopes to sell Internet phone pay service once users find out about the service via the free wireless.
The plan calls for eight hotspots in Central Park -- at places such as the zoo, Delacorte Theater and the Boathouse Cafe -- to be online by mid-October; though Prospect Park -- near the Boathouse and Picnic House -- wouldn't see service until spring.
Service is already up and running at Battery Park near the Battery Gardens restaurant. Other spots scheduled for Wi-Fi Salon's hotspots are Riverside Park, Orchard Beach, Pelham Bay, Flushing Meadows, and Van Cortlandt.
Free wireless connections have been available for a couple years at some Manhattan spots, including Bryant Park. Other free wi-fi spots in public spaces include the Brooklyn Public Library, Chelsea Market, and eight locations downtown: City Hall Park, Bowling Green Park, the World Financial Center Winter Garden, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial park, Wall Street Park, 60 Wall Street Atrium, on Stone Street and the South Street Seaport.
