Cyclone roller coaster closed after accident

The Cyclone roller coaster on the Coney Island boardwalk is offline either for routine maintencance or as a result of a "terrifying accident that injured four riders," according to the Post.

From the Post:

The 78-year-old coaster screeched to a dead halt during its first death-defying 85-foot drop (during Labor Day weekend,) when the three-car train struck a "misaligned track" at 60 mph, sending four people to the hospital with whiplash and forcing it to be shut down by the city, said Buildings Department spokeswoman Jennifer Givner.
It was first posted as an anonymous tip on Craigslist by someone who claimed to have been on the ride when it broke. More details at Gothamist and Gawker.

The historic coaster is normally only open at weekends during this time of the year, and completely hibernates starting mid-October until the weather warms up again in Spring.
